Do You Really Need a Landing Page?

You have finally found the best products to promote and sell online. You have also signed up with the Google Adsense program, or with other affiliate program (Amazon, for example). Not only that, you have already prepared ads you want to post on your affiliate’s site.

Now, you are ready to be the next most successful online entrepreneur, aren’t you? But, is there anything else that you need to take care of first before starting to promote and sell? How about your landing pages? Are they are prepared for your online business?

So what are landing pages? They are web pages where visitors are taken to whenever they click a link on the search engine result page (SERP) or on web ads.

In affiliate marketing sphere, landing pages would mean your product or services pages, where you, a merchant, want your target audience (potential buyers) to land after clicking on an affiliate’s site.

Most often, landing pages are NOT different from any other web pages you have seen in the past, especially if the website is an e-commerce site.

Some people also use their website’s homepage as their landing page. Are these people making a huge mistake? Should you, as an affiliate, create landing pages for their ads too?

Well, just like most online retailers, you can always direct potential customers to their homepages. But, if you want to gain more out from your online marketing efforts (more profits to be exact), I highly recommend that you create a ‘special’ landing page for your web ads. Why?

Here are few reasons why you need to create landing pages for your web ads. Even better, create a great landing page rather than a plain and simple one.

Reason #1: To explode Online Conversions…

Creating a great looking landing page is the sure fire ways of making more conversions in any affiliate marketing program.

There are many affiliate marketing programs available today, however, most of these programs often let the merchant pay the affiliate through a pay-per-click, PPC, method.

With this method, all you have to do is register with the program and submit your ads. The owner of the program will then distribute your ad to various affiliates who in return place your ads on their websites.

Whenever someone clicks on your ad, a visitor would be directed to your landing page. You then have to pay the affiliate(s) for their service.

You, as a merchant, will make profits in an affiliate program through conversions – i.e. whenever a visitor directed to your landing page purchases product on your site.

WITHOUT these conversions, you make nothing from the affiliate program.

Remember the more visitors are directed to your landing pages from your affiliate’s site, the larger your expenses would be. The only way to recover from these expenses would be through conversions.

Now, of course, you will not be getting any conversion if you posted an ad on your affiliate’s site without actually designing a great-looking landing page on your website, where potential customer would be redirected to.

That would be the same as advertising a product without actually having a store to sell your product.

Your advertisement could be very enticing, encouraging people to visit your site and purchase a product. But, without a great-looking landing page, how will they know how to purchase your product(s).

That is why it is very crucial to design landing pages for your ads because it is the only way you earn from affiliate program. In short, without landing pages, you only spend money paying your affiliates without getting anything in return.

Reason #2: Other Web Pages May Not Just Be Enough

On the other hand, many online business owners make a huge mistake of making their site’s home page as their landing page for their ads. Same is true for those who use other pages such as “contact us” and “about us” or a “product page” as their landing page. Why other web pages is not just enough?

Well, homepages are designed to serve many visitors to give a overall information about the site and how to use it. As a result, it will have tons of links to other specific pages or to external websites. Same is true with other two types of pages mentioned above.

But, if you are serious about making tons of cash from affiliate program, we are sure that you do not want your landing page serve the needs of all kinds of people, most of whom may not be really interested to purchase your product.

So, when creating a super landing page, you must have the customer in mind before directing them into that page. In other words, your landing page must be highly relevant, specific, and contextual to the keywords and titles you actually placed on your ads. Also important is that the landing page must encourage your visitors to take action – i.e. to purchase your products or services, or at least provide leads for potential customers.

Conclusion: Do You Really Need a Landing Page?

You have probably quit your 9-5 job, saved enough for another six months, and entered into the affiliate marketing business with these things in mind: to save money on advertising costs and to make more profits. But, if you enter into affiliate marketing without building a killer landing page, just like so many new comers do, you will end up spending too much without getting anything in return.

IF you do not have a landing page for your ads, we highly recommend that you start creating new one today, or soon. And, just do not get me wrong when I say this: it is not enough for you to just have a landing page, but it should also be a GREAT landing page!
